Vladimir de Leon Llaguno
Vladimir de Leon Llaguno was born in Havana City in 1963. He studied at the San Alejandro School of Fine Arts and at the René Portocarrero Silkscreen Workshop. Vladimir de León Llaguno, known as “Vlado”, has been creating art since the mid-eighties (he began his career as a designer with the duo Nudo, which left a historic mark on Cuban graphic arts). He has collaborated as a graphic designer on multiple posters for feature films, short films and documentaries from the ICAIC and for fine arts exhibitions. He is distinguished by his marked diversity, encompassing painting, drawing, design, photography, video, installation and performance. His approach is characterized by his rejection of conformity, his iconoclasm, his sense of humor, his audacity and his sarcasm. Vlado’s visuality attracts us for its poetics, its constant change within his unique practice, his craft in the sometimes dreamlike reinterpretation of a surrounding reality, his perseverance in searching beyond the formal. And above all, this irreverent and allegorical praxis manifest in the aesthetic multiplicity of his creative stories.
