Pedro Pablo Oliva Rodriguez

Oliva Martinez, Pedro Pablo, (Pinar del Río, Cuba, January 15, 1949) He was born in 1949 in Pinar del Río. Between 1961 and 1964 he studied at the Provincial School of Plastic Arts in his hometown. Later he studied painting at the National School of Art in Havana, graduating in 1970.

 

 

Awards Obtained

1973: First Prize and Mention for Painting in the I Hall of Plastic Arts Instructors, Pinar del Río

1974: First and Second Prize for painting and first Prize for drawing: II National Hall of Professors and Instructors of Plastic Arts, National Museum of Fine Arts, Havana, Cuba.

1975: Special Mention III National Hall of Professors and Instructors of Plastic Arts, National Museum of Fine Arts, Havana, Cuba.

1980: First Prize Painting VIII National Youth Salon of Plastic Arts, National Museum of Fine Arts, Havana, Cuba.

1981: Acquisition Award: Salon “Girón ’81”, National Museum of Fine Arts, Havana, Cuba.

1987: Distinction for National Culture, awarded by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba

1990: Painting Award: UNEAC National Hall 1990, National Museum of Fine Arts, Havana, Cuba.

1994: Alejo Carpentier Medal, awarded by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba.

1997: FAO Members of Honor Medal. Rome Italy

2006:

-Special Prize, Ceramics Biennial, Ceramics Museum, Havana.

-National Prize for Plastic Arts, awarded by the National Council of Plastic Arts and MINCULT

-“Youth Teacher” Award, awarded by the AHS

Group Exhibitions

He has exhibited successfully in Cuba and abroad and his works are found in important collections in Canada, France, Italy, Spain, Brazil, Switzerland, Mexico, Germany and the United States. Special guest at the Venice Biennale, Italy, 1982 and winner of the Painting Prize, National Hall of the Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC), National Museum of Fine Arts. He has been awarded the Medal for National Culture awarded by the Council of State of the Republic of Cuba and is a professor at the Provincial School of Arts of Pinar del Río. In 1998 he began to finance the Casa-Taller PP.Oliva project, Pinar del Río, specialized documentation center for plastic arts students, writers, journalists and teachers. This space has an exhibition hall and a conference room.52 It contributes to the foundation of the Pinar del Río Art Museum, MAPRI.
